VPI Pet Insurance Overview
Founded in 1980, its very first policy was sold in 1982 to TV dog “Lassie”. VPI employs about 11 veterinarians and over 90 employees with vet care experience in order to stay up to date with pet health issues and trends in veterinary science. In response to growing demand, they became the first pet insurance company to offer policies for birds, rabbits and other exotic pets through it Avian & Exotic Pet Plan in 2000.

Underwriter
Outside California, pet insurance policies are underwritten by National Casualty Company. Within California, VPI is underwritten by Veterinary Pet Insurance. Policies are offered in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia.

What is covered?:
They offer various plans for cats and dogs which offer coverage to varying degrees. Most plans are offered for both cats and dogs, except for Injury Senior which is exclusively offered to dogs and the Feline Select plan which is only offered for cats. Most plans are offered for pets less than 10 years of age.

Deductible:
Annual deductible of $100, $250, $500 or $1000.
Pricing:
