Trupanion was founded in 1999 as VetInsurance in Canada by Darryl Rawlings. The company expanded into the US in 2005 and is located in Seattle, Washington. It became the first North American pet insurance company to provide its own underwriting which makes the company less vulnerable to risks.
Trupanion’s founder and CEO, Darryl Rawlings, contributed to founding the North American Pet Health Insurance Company (NAPHIA) which Trupanion is also a member of. NAPHIA promotes the highest professional and ethical standards in the pet industry with and wants to promote pet insurance to provide better lives for pets and their owners. Their high-deductible policies were the first to receive the AAHA Seal of Acceptance.
