Pets that can be insured:

Cats and Dogs.

What is covered?:

Pets must be at least 6 weeks old before enrolling. There are three different cat and dog policies which cover pets to various degrees and with varying payouts.

Bronze plans are limited to veterinary fees including:
• Veterinary care for illnesses and accidents
• Hereditary, congenital and chronic conditions
• X-Rays, CAT scans, MRI
• Non-routine dental treatments
• Hospitalization
• Diagnostics Testing
• Hip Dysplasia
• surgery
• prescription
• medications (not including nutritional supplements, vitamins or heartworm/flea and tick preventives)
• Alternative therapies

Silver offers same as above, including:
• Boarding Kennel Fees
• Advertising and rewards for stolen pets
• Pet loss because of straying or theft

Gold includes same as Bronze and Silver, plus:
• Mortality
• Any vacation cancellations

Are pre-existing conditions covered?:

Pre-existing conditions are not covered.

What is not included in plans?:

• Pre-existing conditions (conditions that occur before enrollment or during waiting period)
• Routine wellness care
• Vaccinations
• Spay/neuter
• Dental care (unless resulting from illness or accident)
• Pregnancies (unless there are pregnancy-related complications)

Any Vet?:

Any vet can be used.

Policy Duration:

12 months.

Deductible:

$50, $100 or $200 deductible per illness/injury per policy term.

Pricing:

Starts at $16/month, depending on deductibles, co-pay, age of pet, breeds, locations, etc. PetPlan does not have a maximum lifetime or per incident pay out. Annual payouts vary from $8000 (Bronze plan), $12000 (Silver) to $20000 (Gold). Petplan is the pet insurance partner of The Humane Society which is offered to the members of The Humane Society in the US. The company has recently experience rapid growth and as a result Natasha Ashton was listed in Smart CEO magazine’s “Future 50” list. They also host a “Virtual Clinic” on their website which offers a condition-checker informing about common breed-specific health issues. It also offers tips on how to prevent ailments by providing information about symptoms, causes and treatments. Lastly, Petplan launched the magazine fetch! In 2008 which is a glossy quarterly pet health magazine with veterinarian-authored and-reviewed content. A subscription to fetch! Magazine is included with every policy.
